Effects of Vehicle-vehicle/ roadside-vehicle Communication on Adaptive Cruise Controlled Highway Systems

چکیده
In this paper we study the effect of vehiclevehicle/vehicle-roadside communication on the performance of adaptive cruise control (ACC) systems. Two simulation works are presented. One is a single ACC vehicle simulation using MATLAB/SIMULINK. A cut-in scenario and a braking scenario are tested. Communication greatly saves control effort in the former scenario, while has little effect in the latter. The other work simulates ACC controlled highway merging with SHIFT language. The results show beneficial effects of communication in terms of braking effort, waiting-to-merge queue length, and main lane traffic shock wave caused by merging.

Simulation, Analysis, and Comparison of ACC and CACC in Highway Merging Control
We comparatively assess the influence of adaptive cruise control (ACC) and cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) systems on highway traffic flow characteristics, with highway merging as an example. The primary goal is to study the design and implementation of vehicle-vehicle/roadside-vehicle communication system, which enhances an ACC system to a CACC one. In addition, the impact of market...
متن کاملA study of collaborative influence mechanisms for highway convoy driving
Convoy driving on highways is a desirable behavior which reduces the risk of highway accidents and makes traffic faster and more fluent. Recent technologies, such as intelligent cruise control devices explicitly facilitate convoy driving by providing a fully automated means for following the previous vehicle. Participating in a convoy, however, requires compromises from the vehicles, such as sl...

VANETs, as a subset of the MANETs, have progressed remarkably in recent years. These networks have an important role in improving traffic, road safety and driver service. In vehicle Networks, vehicle can Communication by vehicle-to-vehicle communication. Since there are fewer vehicles in the environment, there is no vehicle-to-vehicle connection in some areas. Therefore, they use Road Side Unit...

متن کاملVehicle Position Awareness in Roadside-to-Vehicle Communication
The roadside-to-vehicle communication system is an infrastructure network to be deployed along the roads, which is an important part of the vehicular Ad Hoc networks for future intelligent transportation systems. Vehicle position estimation is a key technology for roadside-to-vehicle communication. In this study, a roadside-to-vehicle communication system is proposed where a camera is fixed on ...
